The New American Chef

The very talented Spice House culinary staff will prepare a selection of hors d’oeuvres based on recipes featured in the authors’ books. Wine will be served with the hors d’oeuvres. We will have both Culinary Artistry and the authors’ latest release, The New American Chef, available for purchase. Andrew and Karen will by happy to autograph copies for you to keep and/or to give as gifts!

Called "the brightest young author team on the culinary scene today" on National Public Radio and "two people who know everything there is to know about food" by Milt Rosenberg on WGN Radio, Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page are the James Beard Award-winning authors of Becoming a Chef, Culinary Artistry, Dining Out, Chef's Night Out, and The New American Chef.

They'll share some of the secrets of cooking with the best of flavors and techniques from around the world, the subject of their latest book The New American Chef, for which they interviewed dozens of leading experts on 10 influential cuisines, including celebrated chef Rick Bayless, chef-owner of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, who has raised Mexican cuisine to a new level of respect in America. The New American Chef has been cited as one of the best cookbooks of 2003 by The Chicago Tribune's William Rice as well as more than a dozen other leading media nationally.

Rick and Deann Bayless offer a taste of their passion for Mexico in Chicago at the casual Frontera Grill (which opened in March 1987). It has led the way in a national awakening to the breadth and refinement of authentic Mexican cooking. In addition to uniform acclaim from local and national press, Frontera Grill has received the coveted Ivy award (1991) and the Mobil four-star rating. Patricia Wells, writing for the International Herald Tribune, selected Frontera Grill in 1994 as the world's third best casual restaurant, after her year-long international journey.
